Male fertility problems? Stay clear of hot baths.
This study confirms the theory that local “body temperature” has an influence on the movability and number of Spermatozoa. So it could be useful to examine the usefulness of seeing temperatures as an infertility factor. So gentlemen, if you are questioning your fertility, than at least avoid saunas, hamams and hot tubs.
Warmth and male fertility.
There was in February 2005 an article published by a team of American researchers in the harsh magazine “Human Reproduction”, the results of this study proved that when a men works with his laptop on his lap, that this could result in a dysfunction of his fertility organs. It is the warmth of a laptop that can have an effect on the Scrotum and can lead to a change in Spermatogenesis.
E-gezondheid.be published a new research in which there where 11 infertile men involved with the average age of 36. These men loved showers, saunas and Jacuzzis and this with high temperatures. When they where recruited for this research they all spend more that 30 minutes a week taking one or more of these activities and that for over a period of 3 following months.
Warmth reduces the Spermatogenesis.
The 11 participants where asked for a period of 3 to 6 months to stop taking hot baths, showers, saunas and Jacuzzis. 45% of these men had a significant increase of Spermatogenesis after this period. The number and movability of Spermatogenesis was increased with 12 – 34%. The authors of this study also mentioned that the participants that didn’t show any progress were firm cigarettes smokers.
The number of participants might be limited but the results surely indicate that fertility is definitely influenced by thermal conditions.
There is also good news: this study also shows that the damage done by Hyperthermia is a reversible process.
The results are understandable: if you and your partner are trying to get pregnant and it isn’t happening for the both of you, try avoiding hot baths and showers, saunas and hamams.
